2012 Yearbook - Trends and Issues in Business Education
The 2012 NBEA Yearbook is developed in five units, which provide the framework for a review of current trends and issues in business education. This organizational structure provides common places for important discussions on a number of factors affecting business education today and into the future.

Unit One, "Issues and Trends Impacting Education for Business," begins with chapter 1 and a thought-provoking discussion of a collection of factors deemed key elements in business education for the future. The second chapter on ethics and sustainability provides foundational information easily used in many business education classes. The third chapter on integration of soft skills into business classes offers a wealth of information on exactly what soft skills are and how they may be included in everyday instruction.

Unit Two, "Critical Issues in the Core Content Areas," includes three chapters. The first addresses the changing accounting curriculum at both secondary and postsecondary levels. A discussion of the Pilot and Bridge Project, hopefully leading to the advanced placement accounting course, is also included.

Chapter 5 discusses issues in economic education and personal finance, a topic that is especially timely. Then, chapter 6 reviews current issues relevant to entrepreneurship and related basic business skills.

Unit Three, "The Impact of Technology," includes two chapters. Chapter 7 reviews a variety of the ever-present technological trends affecting business education—some here on terra firma and some in the "Cloud"! Chapter 8 discusses a wide variety of social media tools and how they may enhance classroom instruction.

Unit Four, "Business Programs at Various Levels," includes three chapters, which de scribe current trends and issues at, respectively, the middle/high school, postsecondary, and college/university levels. The fourth chapter presents a review of model business education programs.

Unit Five, "Professionalism," is an appropriate topic on which to conclude this yearbook. The three chapters in this unit address professional association membership, research in business education, and business teacher preparation and certification.
