Information Technology: Developing Effective Technical Writing and Digital Communication Skills for Supporting and Training End Users
Objectives:
- Understand the importance of effective technical writing and digital communication skills in providing support and training to a diverse user community.
- Develop technical writing skills to create user manuals, training materials, and troubleshooting guides.
- Improve digital communication skills to interact with users and stakeholders globally.
- Develop presentation skills to communicate technical information to a nontechnical audience effectively.

Age Level: Middle school and early/late secondary school

National Standards:
Complies with NBEA Information Technology 2023 Standard XVI.1.4 Develop technical writing, digital communication, and presentation skills to work with global cultures and diverse individuals.

Materials:
- Computers or Laptops: Each student or group will need a device to research, create, and present their materials.
- Internet Access: Students will need internet access for research, accessing digital communication platforms, and potentially for presenting their final products.
- Presentation Software: Tools like Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, or similar software will be needed to create the presentations for Activity 3.
- Word Processing Software: Tools like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or similar software will be needed to create the technical writing materials in Activity 1 and the email/chat messages in Activity 2.
- Projector or Smart Board
- Whiteboards and Markers
- Printer (Optional): If you want students to print out their user manuals, training materials, troubleshooting guides, or email/chat responses, a printer will be needed.
- Student handouts
