Computer Science is a field that continues to grow and pays high salaries. K-12 education has realized the importance of computer science, especially with the emphasis of the STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Math) initiatives. Computer Science is taught by a variety of different departments in K-12 including math, science, technology education and business education. Recent emphasis has led state departments of education to offer and/or require teachers to be certified to teach Computer Science. The study examines the computer science teacher certification requirements by state in the U.S. This study seeks to identify the trends in regard to computer science certification and the ramifications for business education teachers.
