Teaching Accounting
With Graphics, Innovative Language And Manipulatives
Accounting and business teachers have been seeing breakthrough results by using a graphical general ledger and innovative educational definitions of key accounting terms. Based upon research that has s been ongoing for nearly two decades, business, high school and college teachers have been using a diagram called the BASIS Framework to explain the workings of double entry accounting. Named for the Balance Sheet/Income Statement the diagram is a graphical color-coded general ledger. It focuses attention on the ontological meaning on the five elements of accounting, playfully known as RELAX, for Revenue, Equity, Liabilities, Assets and Expenses.. The linguistic and visual approach has achieved notable results in business and school settings. Harvard Business School has endorsed it.
