Information Technology: Doing the Right Thing

A lesson plan about the importance of ethical behavior when using information technologies.

Objectives:

  • Students will understand the importance of ethical behavior when using information technologies.
  • Students will be able to identify examples of unethical behavior when using technology.
  • Students will learn ethical practices and principles when using technology.

National Standards:
Complies with NBEA Information Technology 2023 Standard III.1 Demonstrate respectful, responsible, inclusive, and ethical behavior in a digital world:

  • III.1.7. Discuss basic issues related to responsible use of technology and describe personal or legal consequences of inappropriate use.
  • III.1.10. Demonstrate legal, inclusive, and ethical behaviors when using information technologies
  • III.1.12. Demonstrate appropriate etiquette when using information technologies

Materials:

  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Index cards (2 different colors recommended)
  • Computer lab or students' own devices with internet access
  • Videos and interactive activities related to ethical behaviors when using technology
