A 50-minute business law lesson for grades 9–12 on why law exists, early legal systems, the four sources of U.S. law and the rule of law.

Objectives:

• Understand how law provides order, stability, and fairness in society.
• Identify early legal systems and their contributions to modern law.
• Explain the four sources of law in the United States.
• Evaluate why the rule of law is essential for justice and liberty.

Designed for Grades: High school grades 9-12 Estimated Time: 50 minutes

National Standards: Complies with the following NBEA Business Law standards:

2.1.1: Analyze the relationship between ethics and the law.
2.1.1.3 – Outline a person’s responsibility to obey the law.
2.1.1.5 – Summarize how businesses can meet their social responsibilities

2.1.1.6 – Explain the relationship between law and ethics.
