Student Perceptions of Asynchronous Online Discussions: A Waste of Time or a Valuable Activity? (BERC 2023)

Research on how business students experience asynchronous online discussions, and what makes a forum worthwhile rather than busywork.

Research shows that student experiences in asynchronous online discussion forums vary. This session highlights the study of business and management students, and explores how participants described positive and negative discussion forum experiences. An important theme is that student participants prefer discussions that have an authentic learning component and are not used to in a social sense. The study results will be used to inform discussion forum design and facilitation.
