Overview
Artificial intelligence conversations in education often focus on general chat tools that allow students to generate answers with little structure or oversight. However, other AI tools offer more focused ways for educators and students to use AI productively while maintaining clear instructional goals.
This session introduces two Google AI tools that can support teaching and learning: Gemini Gems and NotebookLM.
Gemini Gems allow educators to create customized AI tools designed to support their own instructional work. Teachers can build Gems to handle recurring tasks such as generating discussion prompts, developing classroom scenarios, adapting reading materials, or producing practice questions. In this session, Gemini Gems will be explored as tools for educator use, helping teachers streamline planning and resource creation.
NotebookLM provides a research and synthesis environment where users can upload sources such as curriculum documents, articles, textbook chapters, or class readings. The platform analyzes these materials and generates summaries, key ideas, guiding questions, and study resources grounded directly in the uploaded content. Teachers can use NotebookLM to transform existing materials into instructional supports, and students can use it to organize information, review readings, and create study tools based on course resources.
Participants will explore both tools through practical examples and demonstrations and leave with a clear understanding of how they can be used to save time and support learning.
